About Us

WE SUSTAIN SHIELD AND SUPPORT

The South African Black Golfers Association (SABGA) was founded in 2001 by members of the Black Golf Association. Many of these founding members were originally caddies who had grown within the game to become respected coaches. Through initiatives like Sustain Shield, the organization offers support and actively promotes the game to Black golfers. Its mission is to develop golf throughout the country from the grassroots level—starting at schools—in all nine provinces and across African nations.

The purpose of the South African Black Golfers Association (SABGA) is clear: to Sustain, Shield, and Support the game of golf. Every SABGA initiative is thoughtfully crafted to uphold these principles and strengthen the sport’s future.

The growth of the game is happening gradually. We have seen women from different walks of life embarking on the golf journey—some for social reasons, others to improve their health. Only a few are playing professionally or participating in ladies’ tours—you can count them on one hand. It’s clear there is an imbalance in the game between the majority and the minority.

COMMITMENT

SABGA is committed to bridging the gap not only between women and men golfers, but across all communities.

We Serve

SABGA serves as the local voice of golf in South Africa. Its mission centers on preserving the core values of the sport and ensuring that every member enjoys the game to its fullest. Whether it's a participant in a SABGA event, a club member with a SABGA/SAGA Handicap, or a Member Club itself—each plays a vital role in supporting and sustaining the Association.
